Exploring the chain
🔥What we’re watching: It’s important for brands to understand their users as more web2 companies start to incorporate blockchain technology into their digital experiences to engage with loyal consumers, Matchain CEO Petrix Barbosa, said during the Matchain Quarterly Webinar with Token Relations.
🔥Why it matters: Most web2 consumers don’t care about the underlying technology when playing a game or interacting with a mobile app, they just want to have a good experience. Matchain wants to provide the backend software for brands to use for their platforms. The team isn’t focused on convincing existing crypto-native users to migrate onto their chain, they’re focused on bringing new mainstream users into web3.
A lot of chains focus on scaling decentralized finance, which is a massive multi-trillion-dollar sector, but not an area that mainstream audiences gravitate to naturally. In order to get average consumers into crypto, it has to be easy. This is something a number of chains have honed in on in recent quarters.
“We have been in talks with various sports and drink companies regarding digital partnerships,” Barbosa said. “If blockchain is the solution to a problem, we all believe it is, it can be the solution for their digital experience platforms.”
For context, last month, Matchain partnered with professional soccer club Paris Saint-Germain as the team’s exclusive digital identity partner.
When blockchains partner with traditional brands, it can be seen as a positive sign that the technology is becoming more noticed and integrated into everyday life. As more brands incorporate web3 strategies into their platforms, users will naturally become exposed to its advantages.
“In order to onboard new users, we have to make these apps simple and relatable with already existing tech they’re familiar with,” Matchain Chief Strategy Officer Tomasz Wojewoda said during the webinar.
“It has to be invisible and something that just happens,” Wojewoda said. “Users don’t care what tech is being used, they just know they’re using an app, and Matchain wants to be the same.”
However, partnering with web2 brands isn't the only avenue Matchain is tackling. In relation to digital experience and fan engagement apps, there are a bunch of consumer-facing products that are web3 native, but built for web2 audiences.
“We want to provide a platform for consumer facing apps, that are also web2 friendly to explore building on top of the Matchain network,” its Chief Commercial Officer Jessie Xiao said. “Some of these users are new to web3. They don’t focus on the web3 component, they just want to enjoy the actual product.”
🔥The bigger picture: Matchain is building toward a goal of creating better user value and providing the ability for traditional brands to create digital fan experiences.
When fans are interacting with their favorite sports team or consumer brand, it can feel disconnected at times. To combat this, the Matchain ecosystem aims to become the landing place for these companies to create personalized digital experiences that fans can enjoy.
