Polygon Spotlight
🟪 What happened: TON Applications Chain (TAC), an ecosystem associated with Telegram, announced it will launch a layer-2 blockchain (L2) for the The Open Network (TON). TAC plans to utilize zero-knowledge (ZK) technology and Polygon Chain Development Kit (CDK).
🟪 Why does it matter: TAC aims to enhance liquidity and connectivity across different blockchain networks by leveraging Polygon CDK and the AggLayer, which uses ZK proofs to enable swift and secure communication.
The network also plans to include compatibility between its L2 and the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM). This will allow developers who have created applications on Ethereum to easily transition to its new L2 and TON’s broader ecosystem.
“The vibrant community surrounding Polygon was also a crucial factor in our decision,” Pavel Altukhov, founder of TAC, said to CoinDesk.
This development could spur the growth of decentralized finance applications, gaming, and decentralized identity solutions within the TON ecosystem. This move aims to bring seamless interoperability and unified liquidity for the budding TON ecosystem, which is well-associated with the Telegram messaging app.
🟪 The big picture: Aimed to integrate Ethereum’s dApp ecosystem with Telegram’s user base, the launch of TAC would signify a strategic advancement to the TON ecosystem.
Through the use of the Polygon CDK, ZK technology and bringing in EVM compatibility, TAC is poised to provide a robust and interoperable platform for developers and users alike.
This development reflects a broader industry trend of creating L2 solutions to enhance scalability and interoperability in blockchain networks. As major L2 entities like Base, Celo, Metal and others pursue an L2 track, TAC’s initiative underscores the growing importance of L2 solutions in driving blockchain innovation, adoption, and multichain accessibility.
